Is teletherapy authorized and covered by insurance?
Teletherapy is payable by most insurance carriers per the Telehealth Enhancement Act of 2013- H.R.3306, 113th Congress, and payable by Florida Medicaid (Rulemaking Authority 409.919 FS. Law Implemented 409.905 FS. History‒New 6-20-16) – (Fla. Admin Code r.59G-1.057 (2016).
As a delivery method of therapy services, insurances will reimburse teletherapy the same as in-person face to face therapy visit.
Teletherapy may be used as the primary means of service delivery or may be used in combination with in-person services on an out-patient or home health basis. Due to COVID-19, a hybrid of delivery options for therapy may be appropriate. As long as it is billed appropriately to the insurance, the services are fully covered.
The Treatment Authorization and Credit Card Authorization (as applicable) on file supports the same billing and payment mechanisms for delivery of Teletherapy services.
